Danny Ings is ready to make his Wycombe Wanderers debut after joining the club and training with the squad. The former England striker is available for selection for Saturday's derby meeting with Reading at Adams Park.
Tom Stockwell, Wycombe's director of football strategy and data intelligence, confirmed the 34-year-old's arrival and readiness. "Danny joined up with the team on Friday last week," Stockwell said. "He has trained with the group since, so we know he's fit and sharp, and ready."
Ings, who started the season without a club, brings extensive Premier League experience from spells with Burnley, Liverpool, Southampton, Aston Villa and West Ham United. He spent last season in the Championship with Sheffield United and has a prior link to Wycombe through coach Sam Vokes, a former teammate at Burnley. In a 17-year career spanning eight clubs, Ings has scored over 120 professional goals, including 72 in the top flight and one for England in a 2020 friendly against Wales.
Derby opportunity
His debut could come alongside new goalkeeper Joe Wildsmith, who was confirmed one day earlier, as Wycombe seek their first home win of the season. The Chairboys sit 12th in League One with 10 points from eight games. Their last outing was a 2-2 draw with Reading, a result you can review in our stats. Ings could provide a timely boost in attack for caretaker manager Tom Hounsell, who has been in charge since 8 September.
