Tom Hounsell sees an unexpected free weekend as a chance for Wycombe Wanderers to build tactical momentum. The temporary head coach is using the break, caused by a postponed trip to Bromley due to international call-ups, for intensive training sessions.
"International breaks probably never come at a good time because momentum is important," Hounsell said. "But it gives us an opportunity to spend some significant time on the training pitch." He believes the gap allows the squad to work on ideas introduced since he took charge without the pressure of immediate competitive matches.
Friendly arranged to maintain match sharpness
To keep players sharp, a friendly fixture has been arranged for this Friday. Wycombe are scheduled to return to League One action at home to Luton Town on October 10.
Recent form provides foundation for progress
The break comes at a positive time, with the team unbeaten in their last five matches. They have collected seven points from their last three league outings, a run that has lifted them to 12th place in the table on 10 points. Their next opponents, Luton, currently sit 16th. The full League One standings show Wycombe six points behind leaders Plymouth. Wycombe Wanderers host Luton Town at Adams Park on Saturday, October 10.
