Wycombe Wanderers have seen a bid rejected for Exeter City striker Jayden Wareham as they look to strengthen their attacking options before the transfer window closes. The 23-year-old forward enjoyed an impressive campaign last season, scoring 22 goals in 53 appearances in all competitions for the Grecians despite the club's relegation to League Two. Transfer expert Pete O'Rourke suggested on August 19 that Wanderers had submitted an offer for Wareham. This was confirmed by Exeter manager Matt Taylor, although he did not reveal which club in the EFL had made the bid. Speaking to the club's media ahead of Saturday's home clash with Accrington Stanley, Taylor revealed Exeter had received and turned down an approach for the former Reading and Chelsea youngster. He said: "We have had the first offer for Jayden Wareham of this window, which is strange to say at this moment in time. "It has been turned down. "We will see how that grows and develops." Wycombe are understood to remain interested in the striker as head coach Michael Duff continues to assess his attacking options. The Free Press understands that interest began earlier in the month and that a second bid is set to be made. At present, Bradley Fink, Cauley Woodrow, Emre Tezgel and Cameron Stones are the club's recognised centre-forward options, although Junior Quitirna, Silko Thomas and Fred Onyedinma are also capable of operating in more advanced roles. Wycombe are currently 13th in League One, 1 point behind leaders Huddersfield, with 1 goal scored and 1 conceded this season. Wareham, who was born in Ascot and has family connections in nearby Slough and Reading, is expected to be included in Exeter's squad for this weekend's fixture against Accrington unless a move progresses in the coming days. The transfer window will close at 11pm on Tuesday, September 1. Free agents can be signed during the course of the season.
