Wycombe Wanderers manager Michael Duff will use Friday’s EFL Cup clash with Stevenage as a final pre-season run-out, with the likely starting XI for the League One opener at Blackpool set to feature. League standing (final 2025 table -- new season not yet under way): 11th in League One, 63 pts, 17W-12D-17L from 46 games, recent form WLLDL.
Duff admitted the Adams Park tie will serve as the last chance to bed in his first-choice side before the trip to Bloomfield Road. The 47-year-old said his players are in strong physical shape after a busy week, despite an unusual schedule with midweek and Friday fixtures. The Chairboys scored 69 goals and conceded 58 last season, finishing 11th, 40 points behind leaders Lincoln.
The team selected for Stevenage is expected to mirror the line-up Duff would pick for Blackpool, based on fitness and availability. He noted this group has yet to play together in a competitive match, making the cup tie a key opportunity to build cohesion. Wycombe won both home league meetings last term, including a 3-1 victory over Stevenage in February.
Duff praised Alex Revell’s side for their organisation and clear identity, calling them one of League One’s most difficult opponents. He highlighted their continuity and ability to compete despite financial limitations. The two clubs have met 22 times in all competitions, with both claiming nine wins apiece.
