Wycombe Wanderers coach Michael Duff has urged fans to get behind the team ahead of the new season, promising to build a side they can be proud of. The Chairboys begin their competitive campaign against Stevenage in the first round of the League Cup this evening. League standing (final 2025 table -- new season not yet under way): 11th in League One, 63 pts, 17W-12D-17L from 46 games, recent form WLLDL. The league will then kick-off next Saturday when they travel up to Blackpool, with the Adams Park side looking to improve on last season's 11th-place finish in League One. Duff stressed that stadium matters are outside his control and that his attention remains firmly on the football. Speaking to the Bucks Free Press and BBC 3 Counties, the Wanderers head coach called on fans to continue backing the team and promised his players would give everything for the shirt. "Things like the stadium issues are above my pay grade and out of my control," he said. "My message is simple: come and support the team and we'll try to give you a side that you're proud of." Duff acknowledged Wycombe's position as a community-focused club and said the support shown at Adams Park is never taken for granted. "We know what we are. “We're not going to get 20,000 through the gate every week, but the supporters who do come are valued." The 47-year-old outlined the attributes he wants his side to display throughout the season, placing effort and organisation at the heart of his philosophy. "I want a team that's fit, strong and organised. The football comes second to that. "Supporters want to see hard work, commitment and players giving everything. Then the quality and good football become the cherry on top." Duff believes a strong connection between players and supporters will be key to achieving success this season and says backing from the stands is particularly important during difficult periods. "If we're winning games, scoring goals and playing well, people will find their voice. "And when we're having a tough spell, that's when we need the supporters most." The Wycombe boss enjoyed a largely positive first season at Adams Park after taking charge last September following the sacking of Mike Dodds. Since his arrival, he has won 20 of his 45 games in charge across competitions, and last season, the club had a strong opportunity to finish in the play-offs for the fourth time since 2020. However, seven defeats in last 11 games saw those hopes dramatically fade. With pre-season now over, new signings gelling, and the hopes of adding a couple of more faces, Duff is hoping to oversee a stronger challenge this time around. For now, though, his message to supporters is a simple one. "My focus is giving them a team they're proud of.
