Wycombe Wanderers Eye More Signings as Duff Warns of 'Mad' Transfer Market

Wycombe Wanderers head coach Michael Duff has revealed that his team is still considering bringing in one or possibly two more players before the transfer window closes. Despite being pleased with their summer business, Duff acknowledges there's room for further strengthening of the squad.

The Chairboys have already made several signings to bolster their League One roster. Goalkeepers Conor Hazard and Matt Macey joined the club, though Macey is expected to miss most of the campaign due to an ACL injury sustained in a friendly match against Yeovil Town. Other additions include former QPR defender Steve Cook, winger Silko Thomas from Leicester City, and striker Cauley Woodrow on a permanent deal after his successful loan spell at Luton Town.

Duff emphasized that any further recruitment will be focused on enhancing the attacking areas of the squad where he feels there is still some shortness. 'We're probably still looking towards the top end of the pitch because that's the one area where we're slightly short,' Duff stated, adding, 'If something comes up that's too good to turn down then we'll look at it.'

The Inflated Transfer Market

Duff also highlighted the challenges posed by an increasingly inflated transfer market. 'Every centre-forward in League One that we've looked at has effectively been quoted at over a million pounds, and then you've got the salaries that go with it,' he said. 'We've made big bids for players and gone under the water.' Duff's comments reflect similar sentiments from managers across English football, who are facing higher-than-expected transfer fees and player costs.

The head coach added that while there could still be movement in the market, he does not expect any significant departures. 'I don't really see one or two leaving, but I don’t really see that,' Duff said. 'That'll be up to the players as much as anything else.'
