Tom Hounsell is keeping his own future out of the conversation after a perfect start as Wycombe Wanderers' interim manager. The 30-year-old has won all three matches since taking over, lifting the club from second-bottom to 14th in League One.
Hounsell's immediate impact has been dramatic. He began with a 3-2 victory at Leyton Orient, followed that with a 2-1 win over Chelsea Under-21s in the EFL Trophy, and secured a 1-0 league win at Wigan on Saturday. That run of results has pushed Wycombe up the table to 14th place, with nine points from seven games.
Focus on the group
Despite the instant success, Hounsell is not discussing the possibility of taking the job permanently. His only previous managerial experience was a 12-match interim spell at Burton Albion in 2024. When asked about his own position, he redirected the focus back to the squad.
"I've said it before. My thoughts are never on myself, it's about the group of players," Hounsell said. He added, "I'm employed by this football club, ultimately, to help us get wins."
Building momentum
The recent form, with three wins and a draw from the last five games, provides a solid platform. Dan Casey scored the only goal in the 68th minute against Wigan, assisted by Cauley Woodrow, to secure the latest victory. That win extended a three-game winning run and improved the club's goal difference to minus three, having scored 11 and conceded 14 this season.
